Finance Officer 

Full Time – Permanent
Level 4 - $60,046.23 - $76,395.57
+ District Allowance & Superannuation
+ 6 weeks annual leave & 3 weeks sick leave (accrued on a pro rata basis)

In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Processing creditor invoices and purchase orders
  • Reconciling creditor accounts against monthly statements
  • Process general ledger and plant journals
  • Generate invoices, statements and/or adjustments to debtor invoices and rates notices.
  • Act as a key contact for queries from internal and external customers.
  • Assist in the collection of Council’s outstanding accounts receivable.
  • Investigate advice and process all transactions relating to investments in accordance with Council’s Investment Policy.
  • Ensure Council’s financial policies, procedures and processes are adhered to and actioned accordingly.
  • Process fortnightly payroll including superannuation and deduction remittances.
  • Process staff uniform entitlements in accordance with annual budget allocations.
  • Conduct all Council financial reconciliations, including daily bank reconciliation, ensuring adherence to the Council’s relevant internal audit procedures.
  • Perform end of month processes including general ledger and subsidiary ledgers reconciliation.
  • Preparation of monthly BAS
  • Provide information/reports for the preparation of monthly reports to Council and the Annual Financial Statements, associated working papers and reconciliations for submission to the Auditors, ensuring the compliance with statutory deadlines.
  • Participate and contribute in Council’s budget process.
  • Assist in the updating of Council’s Fees & Charges policy, procedures and structure.
  • Assist in all areas relating to Rates & Charges including rates revenue (modelling), enquiries, collection of outstanding rates, BPay, direct debit, journal entries, etc.
  • Participating in project teams as required.
  • Provide high level customer service through incoming telephone calls and counter enquiries.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster.
  • Maintain the creditors’, debtors’ and employee master information.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Demonstrated the ability to deliver excellent results and enriched relationships.
  • Has the ability to apply their extensive knowledge and skills in specific areas to resolve issues in which have elements of complexity.

Essential:
  • Current Northern Territory’s Drives C class Licence

Desirable:
  • Finance Accounting degree/qualification.

Waste and Environment Officer

Temporary - 6 Month Contract 

Level 4: $60,046.23 - $76,395.57

  • In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Foster strong working relationships with the Waste Management Facility and Depot employees that enables cohesion and collaboration in the work environment
  • Undertake Administrative duties such as the collection of fees and charges at the Waste Management Facility and assist in customer service tasks as required and/or during times of when employees take leave.
  • Monitor, promote, assist and provide directions to facility users regarding the separation of waste and materials and direct the placement of such materials to the correct area.
  • Ensure the Waste Management Facility is maintained in a neat and tidy condition, undertake regular wash downs of sealed/unsealed surfaces, conduct weed control practices such as slashing and mowing. Load recovered materials from stockpile areas. (Crushed Concrete/Vegetation/Domestic Rubbish)
  • Undertake general labouring duties including the maintenance of the landfill site (i.e. road access, tip front approach, dirt excavation, dust suppression, etc).
  • Maintain the compaction and land grading at the Waste Management Facility
  • Performing green waste chipping and mulching as required.
  • Maintain the correct fire impact zones throughout the Waste Management Facility.
  • Safely operate Waste Management Facility and Depot plant and equipment
  • Ensure minor routine maintenance are conducted on the Waste Management Facility and Depot plant equipment, liaising with the Fleet and Logistics Officer and Waste Management leading hand on services and repairs as required.
  • Contribute to the beautification of the Katherine’s municipality through on the ground maintenance of Council facilities, parks and gardens
  • Support ongoing and future grounds work by assisting in the design, construction and maintenance of Katherine Town Councils Infrastructure and natural environment.
  • Maintain a safe work site and safely conduct plant and equipment operations, ensuring the safety of the public members and other employees at the Waste Management Facility are in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Observing safe work practices as directed, warranting the use of personal protective equipment as and when required.
  • The ability to identify and report problematic issues, verbal and written communications in a day to day working situation.
  • The safe handling of hazardous materials including asbestos and chemical waste to ensure all Environmental Protection Authority legislative and licence requirements are met.
  • Undertake a variety of duties that assists the Katherine public and commercial operations to better use the Waste Management facility and undertake resource recovery, rubbish control and rubbish collection duties as needed
  • Ongoing implementation and management of Council’s Workplace Health and Safety, and Risk Management programs.
  • Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster.
  • Other responsibilities as shall be reasonably associated with or incidental to the above responsibilities or as shall, in the course of the employment, be agreed between the parties as being or forming part of the duties.
Essential:
A current Northern Territory Driver’s Heavy Rigid class licence
Desirable:
Relevant Certificate qualification.
Qualification/accreditation in Front Load Operator and Dozer.

Library Assistant

Visitors Information Officer

Permanent - Part Time 
Level 2: $24.54 per hour 
Weekends minimum 8 hours per fortnight

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Provide high quality customer service to Visitor Information Centre patrons to maximise the upselling of tourism products;
  • Provide effective and productive communications to visitors, operators and other stakeholders via various forms (i.e. telephone, email, face to face contact)
  • Monitor and maintain display stock;
  • Actively support the Visitor Information Centre day to day operations including famil participation, shift and weekend work;
  • Receive and balance financial transactions as required and in accordance with Council procedures;
  • Assist in the implementation of the Katherine Town Council’s Local Counter Disaster Sub-Plan in the event of a disaster;

Communication and Engagement Officer

Temporary - 12 Month Contract
Level 5: $62,148.14 - $79,069.79

In this role you will be responsible for:
  • Manage the Council’s publicity material and digital presence (social media, website, newsletter) by sourcing digital content and encouraging increased engagement by the community
  • Have awareness and ensure compliance with corporate standards, legislative and statutory requirements as well as web standards and guidelines for information relevant to the accessibility and responsiveness of Council.
  • Ensure the community’s attendance at events/activities held within the Katherine municipality by utilising a variety of marketing tools with an aim to maximise opportunities for Council to promote and enhance community participation and engagement
  • Assist with translating ideas and concepts into proactive marketing campaigns and engaging content that supports Council’s strategic direction and delivery of services to the Community.
  • Track and monitor engagement performance using analytics and other tracking tools and provide analysis and monthly reports on usage and functionality. Make recommendations to improve engagement outcomes.
  • Stay current on all social media developments and best practices by exploring and researching appropriate online technologies and implementing social media tools that will better enhance our relationship with the community.
  • Maintain Council’s online profiles (website, Facebook, Instagram etc) with latest communication, information and updated documents
  • The provision of a high level of customer service through incoming telephone calls and counter enquiries.
