The Committee was established in May 2008 and is open to all interested parties. The following key objectives/issues were raised at the first meeting:

• To raise awareness
• Provide advocacy
• Involve the community and make a difference
• Investigate and promote waste/recycling initiatives
• Container deposit legislation
• Katherine River Reserve - Erosion, weeds, access, water quality and fire control
• Development of a long term plan for Katherine - Flood plain, dam, levies?
• Promote/encourage initatives individuals can take - walk to work, turn off lights
• Invite speakers to the meetings to inform Committee of issues.
