National Youth Week

National Youth Week is an annual event held in every Australian state and territory. The event has been part of the Territory's youth calendar since 2000 when it became a national initiative for all young Australians. In the Territory, National Youth Week has become our biggest youth celebration where young people get involved, have fun and participate in heaps of events and activities.

It's all about young people! It gives the opportunity to express ideas, raise concerns, act on issues and encourages the community to take notice of young people and celebrate the positive contribution they make.

The theme for National Youth Week is always to celebrate and recognise the value of all young Australian's to their communities. The slogan for 2009 is "Make a Move".

beyondblue Partnership

The Office of Youth Affairs in the Department of Health and Families has partnered with beyondblue - the natioanl depression initiative for the second year in a row. Beyondblue is providing funding to facilitate National Youth Week 2009 Opening or Closing Ceremony accross the Territory with a focus on promoting positive mental health messages amoung young people.

Being involved with National Youth Week offers fantastic opportunities to:

  • Showcase young people's diverse talents, contributions and achievements to the rest of the community;
  • Promote a positive profile of young people living in the Territory including those young people living in remote areas;
  • Enable young people to express their ideas; providing opportunities to give them a voice, and:
  • Connect with other young people across Australia in celebrating this national event.
